What is Cephalexin? Cephalexin capsules are used for the treatment of the conditions enumerated below, when caused by responsive strains of the nominated microorganisms.

– Cephalexin is used for treating respiratory tract infections created by Streptococcus pneumoniae and Streptococcus pyogenes (Penicillin is the drug usually administered in the treatment and avoidance of infections caused by streptococci, including the prophylaxis of rheumatic fever. Cephalexin capsules are generally successful in the annihilation of streptococci from the nasopharynx; yet, conclusive data related to the the efficiency of cephalexin use in the ensuing prevention of rheumatic fever are not available at present.)

– Cephalexin is used for treating skin and skin structure infections due to Staphylococcus aureus and/or Streptococcus pyogenes.

- Cephalexin is used in the treatment of bone infections due to Staphylococcus aureus and/or Proteus mirabilis
– Cephalexin is used in genital and urinary tract infections, such as acute prostatitis, induced by Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, or Klebsiella pneumoniae
Tests related to culture and susceptibility should be initiated previous to and for the duration of therapy. Renal function studies should be initiated when it is the case.
To reduce the growth of drug-resistant bacteria and preserve the efficacy of Cephalexin and other antibacterial drugs, Cephalexin should be used only to manage or prevent infections that are demonstrated or strongly assumed to be initiated by sensitive microorganisms. When culture and sensitivity information are presented, they should be considered in selecting or modifying antibiotic therapy. {In the absence of such data|If this data is unavailable, local epidemiology and susceptibility patterns may lead to the empiric selection of medication.

Furthermore, it can be used as an alternative for penicillin to treat common infections in people who have an allergy to penicillin. It is worth mentioning, however, that there is a small probability that people who are hypersensitiveto penicillin will also be allergic to cephalexin or to other cephalosporins.

Cephalexin is ineffective against any infection produced by a virus, for example the flu, stomach flu, or common cold.
